What can I expect on my first day of school? What should I bring on my first day? What time should I arrive?
You will find your first day of school to be exciting! Your homestay family will take you to school at 8:30 AM, and our friendly staff will be waiting for you. We will make you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. You will have an orientation, in which you will be shown the school facilities and the neighborhood around the school, as well as some practical information. You will then be level tested. You will take a short grammar quiz and do a brief writing assignment, and then you will have a chat with our Teacher and Students Services Manager, who will assign you to a class. By 10:40, you will be able to meet your new teacher and new classmates and begin class.
Items necessary for your first day of school:

- Medical insurance card
- Pen or pencil
- Paper or notebook
Please note that you must show proof of medical insurance or purchase student insurance when you arrive at Study Abroad Canada Language Institute.
What is our daily schedule?
If you are in the Intensive English Program, your class will start at 9:00. You will stay in class until 3:30, but you will have a lunch break from 12:00 until 1:00. At 3:30, your class will finish, and you will say good bye to your new friends and wait for your homestay family to pick you up and take you home.
If you are in a Study Tour Program, you will have a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 and after lunch, you will have an afternoon activity which may include Anne of Green Gables House, a craft, or canoeing!
How many students are in one class?
The maximum number of students in one class is 14-16. The average is 8 per class.
Who will my classmates be?
Your classmates will be people from all over the world who are studying English, just like you. You will be able to meet people from Asia, South America, Europe and other provinces in Canada such as Quebec.
Do I have to speak English at all times at the school?
SACLI has an English-only rule. You must speak English at all times while at the school and when participating in school activities.
What are the qualifications of the teachers?
All of our teachers are well qualified and have lots of experience. Our teachers are certified ESL/EFL teachers by TESL Canada. In addition, they hold at minimum an undergraduate degree and many have advanced degrees in education.
What are the classes like?
Our classes are friendly and educational. We use a student-centered approach that requires all students to talk and interact with each other. Learning is hands-on, and the teachers design a number of different activities to help students maximize their learning.
Does your school offer TOEIC and TOEFL preparation?
We offer TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS preparation on demand.
Will I receive a certificate at the end of my program?
Yes, you will receive a certificate at the end of the program. The certificate indicates the course in which you participated and the length of time.
What school activities does your school offer?
If you participate in the Study Tour program, you will have activities every afternoon as part of your program. Students in the Intensive English program have free activities every Friday afternoon. Depending on the season, our Friday afternoon school activities may include kayaking, making a craft, going to the Anne of Green Gables House, making and eating a lobster lunch, or ice skating.
What things do students usually do after class?
Students have access to a computer lab at the school so some students spend time writing emails or exploring the internet. We also have language learning software that you may use. The Charlottetown school is located in the downtown area where there are many stores, coffee shops, a public library and an exercise gym for which all students have access.
Does the school have computers the students can use?
Yes, the school has a computer lab for students as well as free wifi through the school.
Where can I eat lunch?
The school has as student lounge that has kitchen facilities such as a fridge and a microwave. The lounge is comfortable and is designed to be a place for students to hang out and chat. It has computers for students to use and as well as sofas and tables. There are also games for students to play and a bulletin board for students to catch up on the lasts information. The lounge is open to students until 5:00PM.
Where can I get drinks such as coffee, tea or hot chocolate?
Study Abroad Canada provides coffee, tea and hot chocolate for free. Some students in Charlottetown prefer to go out at break time to buy a hot drink at one of the many coffee shops located downtown.
